Théo Clerc, the young Parisian who’s been jailed in Baku, Azerbaijan, since March 2024 under harsh conditions. He was sentenced to 3 years for painting a subway, following a diplomatic dispute between the French government and Azerbaijan. Since his arrest, Theo has been living in difficult circumstances: the only food he receives comes from his fellow inmates’ families, which he has to pay for. His family and friends are crowdfunding to help cover travel expenses, legal fees, and basic needs while they continue to fight for his release.

Two books in a hardcover case with metal plate mounted on cover. The original book Subway Art comes with Repainting Subway Art. For the real deal collectors this special edition comes with a signed print - an exclusive 1/1 selected photo from the outtakes. Books signed by Martha Cooper and Tripl.
The publication Repainting Subway Art (Tripl a.k.a Furious. Ruyzdael Publishing, Amsterdam, 2024) is the consummation of a tribute to the inventiveness and creativity of the original graffiti writers and photographers of the book Subway Art (Martha Cooper, Henry Chalfant. Thames & Hudson, New York, 1984) and the worldwide graffiti movement they inspired for more than 40 years. One gifted Dutch graffiti writer, Tripl, has recreated and reinterpreted Subway Art, paying both homage to, and starting a dialogue with, the creators of the original book and graffiti as a whole.
Exactly 40 years after the publication of the original Subway Art, the critical, humorous, and respectful release of Repainting Subway Art is a fact. To the deepest layer and smallest detail Repainting Subway Art unveils the dedication, focus and work Tripl put into the reenactment; from painting, to photographing to styling. With 92 pages more than the original book, bringing new words and images of the project, plus an essay and interviews with Martha Cooper and Tripl, the new release gives an in-depth view on the project as a whole and its meaning.
Text has been (re-)written by Dr. Edward Birzin, author of the dissertation Subway Art(fact) (2019), What Do One Million Tags Signify? (2017) and Nov York (2002).
